Born and raised in Prince Rupert, she studied for two years at the Kitanmax School of Northwest Coast Native Art in Hazelton, where she began working primarily in wood carving.\u003cspan class=\"PDq2pG_selectionAnchor\"\u003e\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"\"\u003eHer work took a different direction after she and her husband had their three children. Dickens began drawing as a way to continue making art while raising her family, and drawing eventually became her primary medium.
