She grew up in the small community of Shirley, surrounded by beaches, forests and wildlife, and those landscapes became an important source for her work.

A self-taught painter, Davies works primarily in acrylic. Wildlife has long been a favourite subject, but her work also includes portraiture and commissioned murals.

Traditional Coast Salish art is built around a strong visual structure, using geometric forms, negative space and repeated shapes to construct figures and designs.

Davies brings elements of that language into a much freer contemporary style. Her simplified forms and broad, saturated palette give the work an illustrative, almost storybook quality. Coast Salish shapes appear within the compositions, but they are only one part of her visual language.
The result is work that carries a connection to Coast Salish design while remaining distinctly her own.

+ Behind the Artwork

Bears carry strong associations with strength, protection and family, but One Last Swim feels less like a symbolic portrait of the bear and more like a moment observed in nature.

Three bears are together in the water as the sun sits low behind them.
The title, One Last Swim, gives the scene its meaning.
It suggests a final moment before something changes, whether the end of a day, a season, or simply the time to move on.
Davies does not tell us which, and the painting does not need her to.
